Ok this is just a thought but I wonder if the admins or whatever have ever thought of using the VIP comunicator in place of VT?

Post 2 by fuzzy101 (The master of fuzz!!) on Monday, 21-May-2007 9:19:33

I would think that the VIP vommunicater is fore that particular site..
However, from what I remember about it that doesn't sound like such a bad idea if possible.
The question is if they were to do that, would more people prefer to use that or ventrilo.

What kind of application is the VIP Communicator? How does it differ from VT?

I ask the same question as Liz. Refer to her post above if you don't remember what the question was. The link is: Post 3 .

the thing is, I don't know how many people have ever heard of this program, or even how many people have ever used the program. Ventrilo is a popular program, used by many people, which is why in the end we decided to use ventrilo. We had also at one time considered using teamtalk, but we sitll think that as of late, ventrilo is a more popular voice software.

VIp works a lot like ventrrilol in that you have several different conference rooms.
The advantages that I can see are that it's designed to be accessible, and it can support both low and high bandwith rooms.
I don't know anything else beyond that.
If you're femilliar with for-the-people it's like that only better.
Oh and I think you can also see who is talking.
I think the site that uses it is http://www.vipconduit.com

Ventrilo pretty much does everything you're saying, so I still see no reason to switch. The only thing that ventrilo doesn't do, is the see who's talking, which sounds like something that oculd be scripted into jaws (which I'm sure most can't do), but sighted people can see it.

Well with vip communicater, you can play music with it in crisp clear stereo sound, and www.vipconduit is the site that uses it, and there are well over five thousand people registered on that site, of witch I'm one.

Yeah also www.tafn.org I think uses it. Ok, was just an idea.

point is ventrilo is the more popular client

Post 11 by TylerK (This site is so "educational") on Tuesday, 22-May-2007 18:46:47

Yep, VT is the more popular app. I'm sure someone's written JFW scripts for it that I don't know about.

From what I know VT can be set up to be in stereo.

You can position where you hear particular users' voices. Personally, I'm sure this is an awesome software, but why switch when we already have a good thing? And it's not like we even pay for a server since JJ hosts his own vt servers.

jj hosting now thats funny, but true he does. vts awesome

I don't know how many people are on dial-up, or if VIP Comunicator's coddec sounds better at lower bitrates. How many dial-down users are on here? Aparently not enough to lower the stream for Vintrillo, so therefor the argument of VIP working for both broadband and ddial-down users alike wouldn't hold here either.

Positioning is different than true stereo audio. However, I expect that unless the folks at the VIP Conduit are
particularly generous, expect a licence fee for the zone folks to have to pay. However, if they are generous about allowing us to use their software for our own purpose, is there a problem with giving it a shot?
